Datamax Selects SAMSys RFID Reader Module for Gen 2 Encoding

Article courtesy of Frontline RFID

July 28, 2005 -- SAMSys Technologies Inc., an international provider of RFID hardware solutions, will supply its MP9311 RFID UHF reader module for use in all RFID label printers manufactured by Datamax Corp. The MP9311 module supports the new EPC Generation 2 tags. It can handle all tag protocols and global frequencies in a single SKU, simplifying product development for printer manufacturers.

Datamax will use the MP9311 module as a component of its I-Class RFID printers, a family of combined bar code printers and smart label encoders. The SAMSys module will enable the printer to encode data conforming to any tag protocol onto radio frequency chips embedded in the labels, aiding compliance with RFID mandates from large retailers and purchasing organizations. The module's multi-protocol functionality will make it possible for the same printer to be used in heterogeneous tag environments where organizations are using legacy and Gen 2 tags side by side.

In addition to Gen 2 tag standards, the MP9311 supports EPC Class 0 and 0+, EPC Class 1, ISO 18000-6A, ISO 18000-6B, Philips UCODE 1.19, EM 4222 and Intellitag protocols. It is available in a World version (MP9311-W) that can be used in any geography, as well as a North American (MP9311-N) version that exclusively supports North American frequencies.

The Datamax I-Class RFID printers outfitted with the MP9311 are scheduled to ship in 3Q'05 to coincide with the forthcoming availability of Gen 2 tags as they become available later this year
